SUSAN REICH AND DAVID LAMB FORM BOOK ADVISORS LLC TO PROVIDE TRANSACTION SERVICES AND STRATEGY CONSULTING FOR TRADE PUBLISHERS
NEW YORK, January 19, 2015. Susan Reich and David Lamb are pleased to announce the creation of a new company, Book Advisors LLC, to advise publishers on mergers and acquisitions in addition to providing consulting on strategic planning, digital publishing, distribution, and operational issues.
Susan Reich recently left her position as President of Publishers Group West (PGW), a division of The Perseus Books Group and a leading distributor of independent publishers, a position she held from 2007 to 2015. Prior to that she was COO of the Avalon Publishing Group and held executive positions at Harper San Francisco, Random House and Simon & Schuster. Susan was formerly a Consultant at BMR Associates. Susan is based in Oakland, California.
“In the course of my career I’ve had the pleasure of working with a wide range of publishers,” said Susan Reich. “I’ve known David for twenty years and worked with him on the sales of PGW (2002) and Avalon Publishing (2007). Combining my operational experience with David’s financial advisory background will give Book Advisors clients the best of both worlds.”
David Lamb brings years of experience in financial advisory, strategy consulting, and publishing operations from positions at Veronis Suhler Stevenson and GSL Publishing Associates. As president of GSL Publishing Associates for fifteen years he handled the sale of consumer publishers including Motorbooks, Avalon, Publishers Group West, Timber Press, and Sterling Publishing. His buy-side clientele has included Chronicle Books, Workman Publishing, Penguin Random House, and HarperCollins. He also owned and operated self-publisher Vantage Press for three years. As a partner at STM Advisers LLC, where he serves concurrently, his consulting clients in 2015 included the New England Journal of Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is based in New York City.
Types of engagements that Book Advisors LLC will handle include:
Acquisitions. We help clients canvass and identify prospective acquisitions as well as guide them in effectively participating in auction processes being managed by intermediaries. We conduct due diligence, assist in valuation, and structure and negotiate acquisitions.
Sales and Divestitures. On the sell-side, Book Advisors helps clients assess the market value of their companies or constituent properties, and bring these assets to market. We leverage our operational experience to optimally position a business being sold, and our wide range of contacts ensures that the opportunity is discreetly considered by all appropriate counterparties.
Financings and Valuations. We provide consulting services to companies raising capital, and we draw on our experience and transaction database to provide fair market valuations.
Distribution. We keenly appreciate the importance and complexities of the client-distributor relationship, and we specialize in helping publishers form the best distribution relationships possible.
Consulting. We bring a deep understanding of the book industry to our strategy and process consulting assignments.
